A solar angle is the angle at which light from the sun strikes the surface of the Earth. Different parts of the Earth receive the suns rays at different angles. Light rays that shine from directly overhead have a high solar angle (usually about 90 degrees), while other areas of the Earth experience a low solar angle (as low as 15 degrees).
The way a light beam covers a larger area when it hits a surface at an angle is called beam spreading.
Think about it this way: If you spread soem jam evenly on a cracker and the same amount of jam evenly on a slice of bread, the jam will be thicker on the cracker than on the bread.
So, if you take the same size bite out of the cracker and the bread, which would give you the most jam?
Since it is thicker on the cracker, the cracker would give you more.
ReplyDeletesince the cracker is smaller than the bread the cracker you will have more jam on each bite because the space available on the cracker to put the jam is smaller than on the bread so the jam would be thicker on the cracker than on the bread.

Hi this is Andre E. from class 602. I think the cracker would give you more jam in one bite than the bread. I think this because the cracker is smaller than the bread so the jam is spread all over the bread and the cracker is so small with the same amount of jam so it is all mushed in a small spot. I think the cracker and bread with jam represents the different light angles. The bread and cracker both have the same amount of jam but the jam on the bread is all spread out like the light angle at a 15 degree angle. The cracker has all of the jam in one spot and this shows a 90 degree light angle because the light is direct and not spread out like the jam on the cracker.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jousha, if the jam is thicker on the cracker you will get more jam from it then the bread.

Since the cracker is thinner in layer and smaller in size and you put the same amount of jam on the bread and cracker, the cracker will give you the most jam.

ReplyDeleteI believe that if you use the same amount of jam on the cracker and on the bread I say that which ever one is bigger that means the thiner the jam will be. So I say that the jam on the cracker will be thicker and the jam on the bread will be thiner.
I for 1 also agree because the cracker is smaller that is a fact .there is also the same amount of jelly on the breed but on the breed the jelly is spreed out more .The jelly on the cracker is more thick so if you take a bite you will receive more jelly this is my theory.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Joshua and Andre. The jam on the bread would spread out the jam so it would appear to be the same size of jam as if on a cracker but the cracker actually gives more. * Stanley V. 601
ReplyDeleteThe bread has a more vast area than the cracker so if you put the same amount of jam on both the bread and the cracker you will get more jam from the cracker.I think that the cracker has more jam in one bite and since it has head on rays it covers a more smaller area so the 90 degree angle is the cracker and the bread is the one with the 15 degree angle since it covers a more vast area.

ReplyDeleteJam on a cracker will be thicker because it has less space on a cracker than on a slice of bread to be spread out. So when you bite into the bread you will get less jam because it is spread out into a thiner layer than on a cracker.
Hi.This is Breann H. from class 602.I go to a specialized junior high school!I totally agree with Andre E. because the size depends on everything simply because the smaller the size the more jam and since the bread is wider and longer it causes the jam most likely to be more spread out than the jam on the cracker. The high solar angles have a measurement of 90 degrees and the low solar angles have a degree measurement of 15 degrees.I think the crackers and bread are great ways to deminstrate this for hands on learners. It also lets students understand things better. I would highly recommend this lesson for teachers.During the lesson not only did we get a better concept of what we were learning but we had fun.I must say Mrs.Trubnikov is a great, fantastic and awesome teacher.

This is Kayla B. from class 602 and I just wanted to say that since the solar angle is the angle at which light from the sun hits the surface of the earth, and it recieves different sun rays depending on the angle it totally compares with the jam on a cracker factor. It compares because when our class did this fun experiment we put the same exact amount of jam on the bread and the cracker, the only control variable was that the jam was spread out on the bread and on the cracker it was just put on it. When my science teacher Mrs. Trubnikov took a bite out of the bread she tasted the jam but not so much, and when she took a bit e out of the cracker she explained that she tasted alot of the jam. This compares with the solar angle because the 90 degree angle got head on light and the 15 degree angle did not.
ReplyDeleteyou would get more jam from the cracker because their is more space available for the jam to be placed
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. T,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to congratulate all your students on their thoughtful posts on the blog this week. You have a great class, Happy Turkey Day everyone!

ReplyDeleteYou would get more jam from the cracker because the cracker is small and the jam is more piled on to it. Also, the bread is bigger an the jam would be more spread out. P.S HAPPY THANKSGIVING,AND BLACK FRIDAY.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Stanley V. when he stated that the jam on the bread would expand,so it would appear to be the same amount of jam as if on a cracker but the cracker actually gives more because the jam stays in one specific spot instead of expanding everywhere on the piece of bread.
i believe that the jelly would taste more present on the cracker.
